What is the landscape for feature length documentary in the UK? This Masterclass will explore the challenges facing the sector to sustain and nurture the most creative and compelling films. We will be celebrating the success and confronting the difficulties those in the sector face as well as diving into the creative ways independent producers and industry executives continue to push it forward as a genre.
The first panel will focus on independent feature documentary: the producers striving to tell compelling stories in a more commercial space and the organisations who nurture talent at a grassroots level through funding and expertise; those who are driven by the power of documentary as a vehicle for social and political change.
The second panel will look at commissioner strategy perspective – both broadcasters and streamers – and give decision makers the stage to discuss audience appetite for documentaries and impact storytelling alongside entertainment. Insights from distributors and financiers will also support the conversation, sharing solutions that can support finding balance in the status quo and a market that sees the genre thrive?
This Masterclass will be followed by an industry networking reception in the Reuben Gallery, giving industry practitioners the opportunity to connect; in the hopes this will encourage access and foster creative collaboration.
