Q&A with writer Jack Thorne, director Damien Chazelle and executive
producer Alan Poul.
Set
in the vibrant multicultural neighbourhoods of modern-day Paris, the drama
follows a once celebrated jazz pianist Elliot Udo (André Holland) who is now
the co-owner of struggling club The Eddy. As he learns his business partner
Farid (Tahar Rahim) may be involved in some questionable practices at the club,
he gets tangled up with dangerous criminals as he fights to protect his
business, his band and his teenage daughter Julie (Amandla Stenberg).
The
Netflix series was executive produced by Alan Poul (Six Feet Under), directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land), and written by Jack Thorne (National Treasure) along with composer Glen Ballard, who wrote the
songs and established The Eddy’s band.
The
series will be available to view on Netflix from Friday 8 May. BAFTA members
who do not have a Netflix subscription can access episode 1 from 13 May, 9am
for 48 hours at voting.bafta.org.
